Colourant FAQs

1. How do I select the right colourant line for my coating/paint?+

Most paints and coatings types are referenced in the Sell Sheet recommendations for our colourants.  If you don’t see yours listed, contact our Technical Service hotline or your distributor representative for advice and recommendations.

2. What is a POS colourant?+

POS stands for “point-of-sale” and this refers to the process where colourant is dispensed, in a store, into containers of finished paints that are being sold directly to the person who will be applying the paint.

3. How is a POS colourant different from an in-plant colourant?+

POS colourants are typically controlled for color and strength volumetrically and are added to paints by the ounce (oz) or milliliter (ml), while in-plant colourants are typically controlled for colour and strength gravimetrically, and are added to paints and coatings by the pound (lb) or Kilogram (Kg).

4. Do CCA colourants contain a preservative package. +

Yes, they contain preservatives effective at preventing bacterial and fungal growth.

5. Can I buy colourants directly from CCA?+

Yes, however you will most likely use our distributor network, depending on the volume and your CCA product needs.

6. How do I obtain samples of CCA colourants to test in my coatings?+

Samples can be obtained by submitting a sample request for the colourants listed on this website.

7. What container sizes are available for CCA colourants?+

POS colourants are typically packaged in metal quarts and in plastic quarts, liters, and gallons.  In-plant colourants are typically packaged in 5 gal pails, 55 gallon drums, and totes.  Special arrangements can often be accommodated, going through Customer Service with your specific request.

Each colour pigment has a Color Index Name (number) that is specific to its chemical composition.
